Sulfur Cosmos, also known as Cosmos sulphureus, is a species of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It is a fast-growing annual that grows between 2-4 feet tall and has a spread of 1 foot per plant. The compound leaves are between 6-12 inches long with deeply cleft leaflets. The flowers are daisy-like between 1-3″ in diameter and come in many colors – yellow, red, orange, and pink. Sulfur Cosmos is native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, but it is widely used as an ornamental plant for borders and flower beds. It is also included in many pollinator and wildflower meadow mixes, and due to its rapid growth, it is one of the first to bloom in these mixes. Sulfur Cosmos is easy to grow, hardy, drought-tolerant once established, and a beautiful ornamental addition to any garden. It is also a prolific seed-producing annual herb that easily reseeds, making it ideal for a low maintenance flower garden.
