Painted Daisy, also known as Chrysanthemum carinatum, is a herbaceous flowering perennial plant that belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is native to southwestern Asia and is hardy in USDA Zones 3 through 7. The plant produces multi-colored flowers that contain white, yellow, orange, red, rose, and purple. The painted daisy is an annual plant that can be easily grown in flower beds or containers. It needs full sun in northern climates, meaning at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight on most days. It will appreciate some shade in regions with hot summers, especially from the intense afternoon sun. The plant is not too fussy about its soil type but must have good drainage. Loamy or sandy soil is best. The stem of the painted daisy is sturdy, making it an excellent cut flower for arrangements. Butterflies love painted daisies, so they are attractive additions to butterfly or cottage-style gardens that rely on a steady stream of pollinators.
