Common morning glory (Ipomoea purpurea) is an annual vine that belongs to the family Convolvulaceae. It is a twining vine that can grow up to several meters high and bears heart-shaped leaves and trumpet-shaped flowers that are about 7 cm (3 inches) across. The flowers come in a range of varieties and colors, with the best-known bearing azure-blue, white-throated flowers, and purple, red, pale blue, and bi-colored flowers also available. Morning glory is grown as an ornamental in many places, but it has become a troublesome weed in parts of southeastern North America.
